Chapter 24: The Trial of Batman (Ch 827756487)

“Gotham City Federal Court is now in session.”
“Please take your seats, members of the jury.”
The atmosphere is grand and solemn.
A signal tower was built urgently to broadcast the scene here live on a large screen in the city center.
People gathered tentatively, looking up.
This is where everyone’s attention is.
Those present in suits and ties all smiled gently and kindly, trying to stand out.
This was the first trial for a superhero.

Green hair, eyes, red lips, pale skin, and the fact that he looked so much like a clown caused a commotion when he sat down.

When everything quieted down, Lane, wearing a solemn black suit, stood up and faced the jury:
“Dear judge and jury members, today we are here to hear a case involving a well-known citizen of Gotham City.”
“Bruce Wayne, also known as ‘Batman,’ is now charged with multiple serious crimes on behalf of the Gotham City District Attorney’s Office.”
“These include: illegal entry, intentional injury, traffic violations, illegal vehicle modification, illegal manufacture, sale, transportation, storage of firearms, ammunition, explosives, illegal detention, illegal evidence collection, and illegal intrusion into information systems.”
“These crimes not only violate the law, but also pose a threat to public safety and social order. We will provide a large amount of evidence, including surveillance video, eyewitness testimony, forensic reports, and physical evidence obtained from the defendant’s equipment to prove the defendant’s guilt.”
Bruce Wayne’s defense attorney stood up. He was also serious and formal:
“Dear judge and jury, my client, Bruce Wayne, is a hero who is dedicated to fighting crime and protecting the people of Gotham City.”
“The core purpose of his actions was to uphold justice and protect the innocent.”
“In subsequent examination, we will prove that the defendant’s actions were necessary measures taken in an emergency to prevent greater harm.
“We will provide evidence to prove that the defendant’s actions were consistent with the principles of self-defense and emergency avoidance.”
“In addition, we will question the legality and reliability of the prosecution’s evidence.”
“That’s the end of my speech.”
The judge looked at the conspicuous figure: “Bruce Wayne, are you willing to speak at this time?”
The green figure who had been silent all this time stood up. Not only did his appearance change drastically, but his demeanor also became colder than before. He spoke, and his voice became rough and hoarse, with a hint of sharpness:
“Your Honor, Judge, and Jury, I acknowledge that I have taken certain actions as Batman, but they were all done to protect the people of Gotham City from crime.”

“There are some exceptional circumstances where I have to take proactive action to protect the public interest.”
“I always believe that justice must be served. I am willing to take responsibility for my actions, but I ask the court to consider my motives and the necessity of my actions.”
Lane looked at him, without comment, and said, “Your Honor, I request to call the first witness, Detective Giles Nelson of the Gotham City Police Department.”
With the judge’s permission, a detective entered the witness stand as a witness and swore:
“I swear that I will tell the truth and not hide any truth.”
Bruce had an impression of this detective – or rather, he had an impression of all the detectives in the Gotham Police Department.
Prosecutor Lane asked:
“Giles Nelson, please describe your interactions with Batman during your mission.”
The detective is honest and upright: “Your honor, jury, I have worked with Batman for many years, and his actions have indeed helped us solve many major cases. However, I must admit that some of his actions do exceed the boundaries of the law. For example, he has illegally entered private property to obtain evidence many times, and has used excessive violence against suspects.”
The defense attorney stood up and asked, “Detective, do you believe that Batman’s actions were intended to protect the public safety of Gotham City?”
“Yes, I acknowledge that his actions protected public safety to a certain extent, but the enforcement of the law must follow due process.”
“Okay, I understand.”
Prosecutor Lane smiled confidently: “Your Honor, I request to present Exhibits 1 to 10, including surveillance video, eyewitness testimony, and forensic reports.”

Surveillance footage scrolled on the screen. It was captured by surveillance cameras in the homes of different victims. The angles were tricky and strange, and there was occasional blur and snow due to the signal jammer, but it was enough to serve as evidence.
“We can see that the defendant has repeatedly entered private property illegally and used violence against the citizens of Gotham.”
Defense lawyer stood up to testify:
“Your Honor, I do not think the evidence presented by the prosecutor fully reflects the situation at the time.”
“In many incidents, such as the Scarecrow poisoning the water source, the Joker releasing poisonous balloons in the park, the alligator in the sewer injuring people, and the Gotham plant riot, my client was in an emergency situation and had to take necessary measures for the safety and vital interests of the citizens of Gotham.”
“Fellow jurors, my client is a hero who acted to protect the citizens of Gotham City. We ask that the court consider his motives and the necessity of his actions and render a fair verdict.”
Prosecutor Lane stood up and argued:
“The evidence clearly shows that Bruce Wayne’s actions violated the law.”
“Although he has the intention to uphold justice, I believe that the enforcement of the law must follow due process. We ask the court to make a fair judgment on the defendant.”
The defense lawyer stood up again and was about to continue his defense when he suddenly heard a noise outside.
“What happened?” the judge asked.
“There’s a crowd gathering outside, attacking the court!” the guard shouted in panic.
Everyone present looked at the dock again.
But the person in the dock was no longer indifferent, but raised his face and gave a sharp smile.
“I knew there would be an accident…” Jason, who was sitting in the audience, couldn’t help but complain to Dick.
This is exactly Red Hood and Nightwing, who changed back into ordinary people’s attire and entered the court as Bruce Wayne’s sons.
“The court is temporarily adjourned.” The judge said, “Notify the Gotham Police Department!”
