Dai Qiguo, chairman of Jiangxin Shipyard, and his team quickly received an order for 30 inland transport ships and 10 ocean bulk transport ships from the logistics division of Hailufeng Company.
These vessels are all electric transport vessels.
Among the inland transport ship orders, there are 10 1,000-ton bulk transport ships, 10 2,000-ton bulk transport ships, and 10 5,000-ton bulk transport ships.
10 ocean bulk carriers, 5 of 10,000-ton class and 5 of 20,000-ton class.
In addition, Jiangxin Shipbuilding Company was asked to develop and produce two battery supply ships.
A battery supply vessel for inland river use, which can carry batteries and has loading equipment for rapid replacement of battery containers.
The other is a battery supply ship used in coastal waters, which is similar in design to the inland river one.
The reason for designing battery supply ships is mainly due to the concern that electric transport ships may run out of power while en route, or that nearby ports are unable to berth ships of this level, and can only be resupplied in the open sea or en route.
This is similar to a fuel tanker.
For the sluggish shipbuilding industry, so many orders can keep Jiangxin Shipyard working for at least half a year.
After all, traditional transport ships not only have low profits, but are also very inward-looking. Among all types of ships in the shipbuilding industry, only building natural gas transport ships is more profitable.
Just after Jiang Miao saw off Dai Qiguo and his group.
Liu Shanhe, general manager of Nandian Group, visited again, and not only them came together, but also companies such as State Grid, China Merchants International, China COSCO Shipping, State Power Investment Corporation, Three Gorges Group, China General Nuclear Power Group, and Huadian Heavy Industry.
These enterprises are divided into three types: power grid, port and power generation.
Obviously, these state-owned enterprises are better informed than private enterprises.
In fact, they received news that Hailufeng Company had developed sponge batteries more than a month ago. Over the past month, they have been either studying the performance of sponge batteries or discussing how to use sponge batteries.
The idea of the power grid is to use sponge batteries to regulate power supply fluctuations.
The port authority prefers to develop battery replacement services using sponge batteries.
New energy power generation companies tend to use sponge batteries to regulate wasted electricity and shorten the payback period.
The result was that after discussions among all parties, they discovered that Hailufeng Company was itself planning on building inland electric transport ships and battery exchange terminals, so they decided to cooperate among all four parties.
After listening to the descriptions of Liu Shanhe and others.
Jiang Miao had no objection: “I understand your thoughts.”
The idea of the three parties is very simple, which is to transform the port and build a battery swap station at the port. This battery swap station can fill the valley and reduce the peak and sell electricity.
As long as this can be achieved, the overall situation of new energy will be completely revitalized.
Jiang Miao told Hailufeng’s plan: “Our company intends to operate by leasing batteries.”
“Battery leasing?” This was the first time that Mr. Zhao from China Merchants International heard of battery leasing, so he asked curiously, “How is Mr. Jiang going to lease batteries?”
Jiang Miao did not hide anything and came straight to the point: “It’s very simple. The rental fee for the full life cycle of one cubic meter of battery cells is 10,000 yuan, plus a 10,000 yuan deposit.”
A deputy chief of the State Grid Corporation of China did the math: “The service life of your company’s batteries is 600 cycles… A single discharge is 400 degrees, and the full life is 240,000 degrees of electricity. 1/24≈0.0416, so the cost of the battery per degree of electricity is about four cents?”
Liu Shanhe shook his head. “That’s not right. We can adjust the battery cell combination to keep the discharge power of a single battery cell below 60 kilowatts. In this way, the battery cycle can reach about 800 times, and the full life span is 320,000 kWh. The battery cost per kWh is about three cents.”
“That makes sense.”
“Taking into account infrastructure, power loss, maintenance and labor, the cost of electricity will increase by about 6 or 7 cents per kilowatt-hour.”
This cost is within their acceptable range.
After all, the current ex-factory price of lithium iron phosphate battery cells is around 33,000 yuan per ton.
What is the battery like in a relatively good factory condition for one ton of lithium iron phosphate? Its storage capacity is 160 degrees and it can be cycled 2000-3000 times. Calculated as 2500 cycles without exhaustion, it can store 400,000 degrees of electricity in its whole life, with an electricity loss of about 10%, that is, a discharge of 360,000 degrees in its whole life.
The average battery cost per kilowatt-hour is about nine cents.
In fact, the cost of this battery must be 0.12 cents per kilowatt-hour, or even higher.
Including other costs, the cost of a complete power storage system is about 0.15 cents per kilowatt-hour.
You should know that the current electricity price that the power grid pays to new energy power generation companies is only a little over 30 to 40 cents per kilowatt-hour. A power storage system consumes one-third, or even close to one-half, of this, leaving even less money to cover other costs.
Take large onshore wind power as an example.
At present, the comprehensive investment cost of onshore wind power projects has been rolled back to around RMB 1,200 to 1,500 per kilowatt of installed capacity.
According to this cost, if the price is 0.45 yuan per kilowatt-hour, it will take about 2666 to 3330 hours of full-power generation to recover the investment cost.
However, if a matching power storage system is built, plus daily operating costs and maintenance costs, the cost per kilowatt-hour will reach about 0.26 yuan.
It happened that there was a low on-grid electricity price, and only about 0.1 cents of revenue was left per kilowatt-hour of electricity, which could be used to spread the cost of investing in wind turbines and construction. This would require 12,000 to 15,000 hours of full-power generation to make a profit.
Looks good!
After all, the construction area of the wind power project can generate electricity for an average of about 3,000 hours per year, which is about 4 to 5 years.
However, the reality is cruel.
Because the amount of electricity generated is not equal to the amount of electricity connected to the grid.
Many times, wind power is generated, but the power grid does not need that much electricity, and the wind power companies themselves do not have large-scale power storage systems, so the electricity is wasted.
Ideally, the Landwind project can pay back its investment in about 10 years.
What is even more terrifying is the offshore wind project. Currently, the comprehensive cost of each kilowatt of installed capacity of offshore wind projects is 3,000 yuan. Under ideal circumstances, it will take 20 years to pay back the investment.
Offshore wind projects also have a fatal problem, especially those along the southeast coast. Once a typhoon occurs, if you are unlucky, the entire wind turbine may be destroyed by the typhoon, which further increases the overall cost.
Therefore, wind power projects have become half-dead after losing official subsidies in recent years.
The use of sponge batteries can now reduce the overall cost of batteries by about 50%, and can also improve the grid’s absorption capacity, so that the generated electricity can be fully utilized.
The CEOs of these new energy companies are already constantly calculating the costs.
Finally, they came to a conclusion that by using sponge batteries, the payback period of onshore wind projects can be shortened to about 5-6 years, and the payback period of offshore wind projects can be shortened to about 10-12 years.
If we are lucky and encounter a few years of stable and efficient power generation, these wind power projects can even further shorten the payback period.
Compared with the previous payback period of more than ten or twenty years, they already think it is very good.
Although they knew that Hailufeng Company must have made a lot of money from sponge batteries, they understood that this was due to the other party’s superior technology and they were not as skilled as them, so they could only pay the money obediently.
Soon, the CEOs of these state-owned enterprises borrowed the office of Hailufeng Company and held a meeting there to discuss further cooperation.
The result of the discussion was the establishment of two operating companies, namely Southern Power Storage and Northern Power Storage.
All new energy companies have taken out their top-secret funds and are making a quick buck by investing in Southern Power Storage and Northern Power Storage.
After completing the discussion on the new joint venture company, Southern Power Storage and Northern Power Storage placed a contract with Hailufeng Company to lease up to 200,000 cubic meters of sponge batteries.
It is planned to build a number of battery swap stations along the ports in coastal areas. After these battery swap stations are built, even if there are no electric ships that need to swap batteries, a lot of money can be made every year by regulating the electricity of the power grid.
It took more than a week to discuss these things before we planned to hold a press conference in Shanmei City.
At this time, Hailufeng Company’s sponge battery could no longer be hidden.
It wasn’t just other state-owned enterprises that got the message.
Domestic new energy companies have also received the news.
Among them, concept stocks related to wind power, photovoltaics, electric motors, and shipbuilding soared rapidly, with almost one daily limit per day.
Lithium battery concept stocks plummeted suddenly.
In this situation of both ice and fire, a press conference was officially held at the Pinqing Lake Government Affairs Center in Shanmei City.
Jiang Miao did not attend the meeting, but Lin Shuya and Battery Business Unit Manager Liu Haitao attended on behalf of Hailufeng Company.
In addition to domestic and foreign news media, there were also many relevant practitioners from new energy companies at the venue, including technical R&D personnel, as well as company CEOs and executives.
Some were excited, some were sad, and some were whispering to each other. The whole scene was as noisy as a vegetable market.
Lu Zhenwei from Beijing Energy International was also present. He had already discussed cooperation with Jiang Miao a few days ago. The two parties would jointly establish a battery production company. In this joint venture, Hailufeng would hold a 49% stake and Beijing Energy International would hold a 51% stake. Beijing Energy would be responsible for management, while Hailufeng would only be responsible for financial supervision. The company’s name would be Beijing Energy Battery Company.
And there is another additional condition, that is, for every cubic meter of sponge battery cell produced, a patent fee of 3,000 yuan must be paid to Hailufeng Company.
Although Hailufeng Company took 80% of the profits, this was an acceptable condition for Beijing Energy International.
In addition, State Power Investment Corporation also cooperated with Hailufeng Company under the same conditions to establish another battery joint venture – State Power Battery Company.
The battery companies that have just arrived have already found out about the cooperation between Hailufeng Company, Beijing Energy and State Power Investment Corporation. This surprised them, and at the same time they are very annoyed and anxious.
Although Hailufeng Company has not yet entered the core automotive battery and mobile phone battery industries, the battery swap projects they have inquired about are enough to cover all the domestic seaports.
But there is no point in being anxious. Now they can only pray that Hailufeng Company will give them some buffer time, otherwise domestic battery companies will be doomed.
