After sending the teachers from Lion Rock Agricultural University to the high-speed rail station.
Jiang Miao called the business secretary Liu Deming again and asked him to contact Yang Hejun, the chairman of Chengyi Group, and arrange a meeting next week.
Since it was the end of the month, he took another look at the work briefings from each department.
His main focus is on finance and personnel.
In terms of finance, the company’s revenue hit a new high in November, with the total revenue of various industries reaching 814.05 million yuan.
Among them, eel fry accounted for 401.37 million yuan, eel meat products accounted for 22.57 million yuan,
Tomatoes 2.64 million yuan, ginseng fruit 3.52 million yuan, white truffles 21.36 million yuan, strawberries 4.18 million yuan, and tea seeds 93.25 million yuan.
Egyptian catfish No. 4 feed worth 24.27 million yuan, eel feed worth 170.25 million yuan, crude fish oil worth 15.71 million yuan, fish balls, fish meat and live fish worth 42.53 million yuan, food and beverages worth 8.99 million yuan, and jewelry and gold and silver ornaments worth 3.51 million yuan.
Excluding production costs, gross profit was 525.31 million yuan.
Jiang Miao was not surprised by the revenue and gross profit. After all, as various projects gradually went into production, the company’s revenue would surely soar.
However, when he looked at the costs, he found that the main expenditure was still on the purchase of Egyptian catfish, which cost a total of about 180 million yuan, and the expenditures on other costs added up to just over 100 million yuan.
However, the profits generated from the purchase of derivative products from Egyptian catfish were decent, with revenue of around 251 million yuan and profits of nearly 50 million yuan.
It also reduces the eel feeding costs in the farm.
However, these revenues did not generate much profit for the company’s overall finances.
The main reason is that Hailufeng Company’s industrial expansion was too fast and a lot of funds were used for expansion.
For example, the renovation project of more than 50,000 acres of durian plantations, investment in the construction of Gannan Camellia Oil Planting Base and Luling Camellia Oil Planting Base, investment in Hongcao Town Strawberry Planting Base and Zhuzaishan Hydropower Comprehensive Project, etc.
However, since the Zhuzaishan Project, Xinxiang Headquarters Building Project, and Xinxiang Dongtian Employee Community Project are loan projects, it is sufficient to repay tens of millions to Shanmei Rural Commercial Bank every month.
The expenses of other projects are spread over each month and become acceptable.
Jiang Miao took a look and found that the company’s net profit this month was still around 270 million yuan.
After investing in so many projects, Hailufeng Company’s cash reserves are still as high as 840 million, and there is no sign of any difficulty in working capital turnover.
This will give him more confidence to go north to Mo Nan next year.
Money is the courage of heroes.
With such a huge amount of cash on hand and monthly revenue, Hailufeng Company can afford it even if its investment in Mo Nan fails.
He wants to invest in a large farm in the south of the desert. On the one hand, the current international environment is not very good. At the same time, the frequent extreme weather events around the world have caused the prices of bulk agricultural products to rise steadily.
Taking soybeans as an example, the current landed price is generally around 4,300 to 4,500 yuan per ton, while the price at this time last year was still around 3,800 to 3,900 yuan per ton.
Some people may think that soybeans are used to press soybean oil. If Hailufeng Company promotes oil tea on a large scale, won’t it replace a large part of soybean oil? Do we still need to worry about rising soybean prices?
However, soybean oil is not simply an oil crop, but a bulk commodity that is more like feed. The soybean meal produced after pressing is related to the cost of domestic pig, chicken, duck, goose and some aquatic product farming.
Essentially, soybean prices determine domestic meat prices.
Therefore, it is necessary for Hailufeng Company to increase its bargaining chips in the domestic market.
Since the application process for grain and oil crop varieties such as soybeans, wheat, corn, and rice is relatively difficult and strict, if Hailufeng Company wants to promote them quickly, it can only achieve results on its own first.
Otherwise, if you hold an unverified soybean variety and want to ask the government to cooperate with you in promoting it, I’m afraid you are thinking too much.
Jiang Miao estimated that Hailufeng Company would have to plant at least hundreds of thousands of acres at one time to demonstrate the superiority of the variety.
There is no way to find hundreds of thousands of acres of land suitable for large-scale mechanized production in the south, and it is also difficult to find it in the North China Plain. The only options left are the Northeast Plain, the grasslands and sandy land south of the desert, and the Western Regions.
Considering the water consumption, only the Northeast and the eastern part of the southern desert can be selected.
After all, no matter how drought-resistant soybeans are, they still require a certain amount of precipitation in the local area. For example, in places like the Western Regions, where the average annual precipitation is only a few dozen millimeters and the evaporation rate is very terrifying, soybeans cannot be grown unless they are close to rivers and reservoirs.
Areas near rivers and reservoirs have long been occupied by local farmers, enterprises, and production corps.
Therefore, the Western Regions can be ruled out.
On the contrary, the Korqin Desert in the eastern part of the desert is very suitable for investment by Hailufeng Company.
Jiang Miao has developed three new varieties of soybeans, all of which can adapt to the sandy environment of the Horqin Desert.
That’s right, the new variety he researched can be planted directly on sandy land. As long as the land is leveled, it can be sown directly and then watered once. In about 10 days, these soybean seeds will take root and sprout.
As long as these soybeans take root and sprout, they only need to be watered twice in the first week after rooting and germination. After that, they no longer need watering because their root genes can mutate to develop a special water storage structure, and their leaves also mutate to develop the ability to collect dew at night. The water stored in those two waterings, plus the dew absorbed by the leaves at night, is enough to make them not need watering at all in the subsequent growth cycle.
Of course, if the water supply is increased, the per-acre yield of these soybeans will increase a lot.
This is one of the reasons why Jiang Miao chose the Horqin Desert. The local soybeans are generally planted in May, and the Horqin Desert happens to have rainfall in June, July and August. Even in the relatively dry northern part of the desert, the rainfall in these months can still reach 210 to 320 mm.
According to Jiang Miao’s estimation, if these three varieties of soybeans were planted in a place with no rainfall at all, the yield per mu could only reach about 150 kilograms with only two waterings and night dew.
However, if there is 50 mm of precipitation during the planting period, the yield per mu will reach about 200 kg; if there is 200 mm of precipitation, the yield per mu will continue to rise to about 250 kg; if there is 400 mm of precipitation, the yield per mu will reach about 300 kg.
If the precipitation exceeds 400 mm, the yield-increasing effect on these three varieties of soybeans will drop sharply, and the maximum yield per mu can only reach about 339 kilograms. This is the result tested by Jiang Miao in his own experimental field.
Although there are situations where one has to rely on the weather for their livelihood.
However, these three varieties of soybeans have a guaranteed yield of 150 kilograms per mu when facing extreme weather, which is very critical.
In order to study these three varieties, Jiang Miao carried out a total of five generations in a 10-acre experimental field from September last year to November this year.
The first generation produced seeds by inducing gene mutations, and then selected dozens of better varieties for planting and hybridization, harvesting a large number of hybrid soybean seeds.
In the second generation, the previous steps are repeated to induce mutations, select good varieties, and plant hybrids.
This was repeated for five generations.
It wasn’t until November that he finally identified three new varieties.
The three soybean varieties are:
Xiandou No. 1: small particles, balanced heavy saline-alkali resistance, average growth period of 102 days, drought resistance, with water-storing root balls and dew-absorbing leaves, can be planted in areas without precipitation, yield of 150-320 kg per mu, 213 kg with 50 mm precipitation, 264 kg with 200 mm precipitation, 302 kg with 400 mm precipitation, and the limit is 320 kg; the average oil content of soybeans is 26.7%, and the average protein content of soybeans is 45.2%.
Xiandou No. 2: Medium-sized, high-oil type, with an average growth period of 98 days, drought-resistant, with a water-storing root ball and dew-absorbing leaves, it can be planted in areas without precipitation, with an annual yield of 142 to 303 kg per mu, 188 kg with 50 mm precipitation, 231 kg with 200 mm precipitation, 289 kg with 400 mm precipitation, and a maximum of 303 kg; the average oil content of soybeans is 29.3%, the average protein content of soybeans is 40.1%, and the monounsaturated fatty acid content in the oil accounts for 44.2%.
Xiandou No. 3: large grains, high protein type, average growth period of 105 days, drought-resistant, with water-storing root balls and dew-absorbing leaves, can be planted in areas without precipitation, yield 173 to 339 kg per mu, 224 kg with 50 mm precipitation, 276 kg with 200 mm precipitation, 321 kg with 400 mm precipitation, and the limit is 339 kg; the average oil content of soybeans is 15.2%, and the average protein content of soybeans is 52.7%.
At present, about 1 ton of seeds of each variety have been harvested.
In order to plant soybeans on a large scale in the southern desert, Jiang Miao has decided to use the rice fields in Magong Town and Hongcao Town that were idle during the winter to plant two crops of soybeans.
After all, 1 ton of soybean seeds can only be used to plant 150 to 200 acres of land. If we don’t hurry up and plant more crops, we will definitely not be able to plant enough soybean seeds for hundreds of thousands of acres of land.
It is almost December now. If we continue planting, we can harvest one crop at the end of February next year; we can plant another crop in early March next year and harvest another crop in early June next year.
That’s almost enough to plant hundreds of thousands of acres.
Although after the harvest, farms in the Horqin Desert can only plant in June, which is a little later than the local soybean farming season.
But it doesn’t matter. Anyway, only one crop can be planted a year in the Korqin Desert, and it’s not too late to harvest in mid-September.
There is another benefit to planting in the Horqin Desert. That is, the summer precipitation in the southern part of the desert has been steadily increasing in recent years. If you are lucky, you may encounter local precipitation exceeding 400 mm.
This will help increase overall production.
Therefore, as soon as Lu Weibin, who had just dealt with the site selection issues of the farm and durian processing plant in Gongping Town, returned to the company, he was called to the office by Jiang Miao.
“Old Lu, I have a task for you.” Jiang Miao said as he poured him tea.
“Boss, what’s the task again?” Lu Weibin took out the small notebook and ballpoint pen he carried with him.
Jiang Miao put down the teapot and explained to him: “I want you to find farmers in Magong Town and Hongcao Town and ask them to use the idle rice fields in winter as soybean seedling bases for us. We will subsidize them 500 yuan per mu, and after the soybean seeds are planted, we will buy them at 4.5 yuan per kilogram.”
“When does it begin?”
“Starting right away, the company will open a large farm in the south of the desert next June, and may need several thousand tons of soybean seeds.”
“So urgent?”
“Yes, and we have to plant two crops to get enough seeds.”
Lu Weibin frowned, “Before June next year? That means there are only six months left? Is it in time?”
“It’s still in time. The growth cycle of the new soybean variety is about 98 to 105 days. After the harvest at the end of February, we need to prepare the farmland in advance and plant another crop immediately. The harvest can be completed in early June.”
“Is that so? Then I’ll arrange it as soon as possible. How many acres will be the first batch?”
“About 600 acres.”
“Okay.” Lu Weibin took a sip of tea, took the information given by Jiang Miao, and brought several colleagues from the planting department to Yancheng Village, where there were still farmlands.
Without further delay, he called the head of Shiomachi Village, Hayashi Yasutoda.
After a while.
Lin Taizhong hurried to the village committee office building with several village cadres.
“Hello…Manager Lu, what’s going on?”
Lu Weibin got straight to the point: “Village Chief Lin, I need your help with something.”
“Please tell me. We will definitely help Manager Lu solve the problem as long as we can.” Lin Taizhong quickly expressed his opinion. After all, Hailufeng Company is the God of Wealth of Yancheng Village, and he dare not offend the other party.
“It’s not a big deal. Our company wants to experiment with a new variety of soybeans, but there is no farmland in Nanhu anymore. I want to ask the villagers of Yancheng Village to plant it. I will give them a subsidy of 500 yuan per mu, and the soybeans will be purchased at 4.5 yuan per kilogram.”
“Really?” Lin Taizhong didn’t expect such a good thing to happen.
“We will sign contracts with farmers.”
Hearing this assurance, Lin Taizhong immediately asked, “Manager Lu, how many acres do you need?”
“At least 200 acres.”
“Give me a day and I’ll get it all ready.”
“Then I’ll trouble Village Chief Lin.”
“It’s just a piece of cake. The villagers will definitely rush to do this kind of good thing.” Lin Taizhong didn’t think this kind of thing was difficult.
After all, the rice fields in Shiomachi Village are not cultivated in the winter, and rice will not be planted until March next year.
However, he still asked for some details: “Manager Lu, we have never planted soybeans here. I am worried that the villagers will not be able to manage it well. We also have to plant rice in March next year. Will we be unable to catch up?”
“Don’t worry, our soybean planting cycle is only 98 to 105 days, and the management is very extensive. Only 8 kilograms of compound fertilizer is needed per acre. Our company will send agricultural technicians to guide you on the specific management.” On the way here, Lv Weibin had already read the detailed information of the three soybean varieties.
“About a hundred days?” Lin Taizhong pinched his fingers and said, “So we can harvest in the end of February?”
“Yes.”
“That’s no problem. I’ll help you find it as soon as possible.”
“If you have gathered all the information, just call my assistant.”
Lu Weibin’s assistant quickly gave the business card to Lin Taizhong.
Watching Lv Weibin leaving in a hurry, Lin Taizhong patted the accountant Lao Zhang on the shoulder and said, “Lao Zhang, don’t you have 6 mu of land at home? Do you want to plant it?”
“I’m just going to plant some seeds. I’m just sitting there doing nothing anyway.”
“Give me a share. I still have 8 mu of land in my village.”
Soon, six or seven village cadres raised four acres of land, and then began to look for close relatives through phone calls and WeChat.
More than three hours later, the 200 acres of planting quota were divided up by the villagers of Yancheng Village.
Lin Taizhong quickly called these people over to confirm the shares.
The village committee of Shiomachi Village suddenly became lively, with dozens of villagers gathered in groups of three or five, discussing the matter in low voices.
“Uncle, is it true that Boss Jiang is subsidizing 500 yuan per acre?” Lin Yongqiang asked as he handed a Furongwang to his cousin Lin Taizhong.
“Of course it’s true. Why would Boss Jiang lie to us?” Lin Taizhong took the cigarette and put it on his ear: “But didn’t you dig a fish pond in your rice field?”
Lin Yongqiang showed his big white teeth: “My family has a vegetable field on the north slope. Anyway, we have been growing sweet potatoes in the past few years. I will borrow a tractor to plow the land tomorrow.”
“Oh? The north slope? It’s more difficult to water that place!”
“It’s okay. I bought a water pump the day before yesterday.”
“Okay then! How big is that vegetable patch?”
“Eight fen.”
Lin Taizhong took out a small notebook, wrote Lin Yongqiang’s name, and then marked 8 mu of land on the north slope behind his name.
On the other hand, Lu Weibin did not forget Jiang Miao’s hometown, Xinxiang. In the same way, he gave 200 acres of planting shares to Xinxiang.
Finally, it is Lu Weibin’s hometown, Jincheng Village.
Lu Weibin, who returned home in glory, felt secretly happy when he saw the village chief Wang Jianxin and others who were arrogant at first but respectful later.
“Brother Jianxin, please arrange it as soon as possible!”
“No problem, Weibin, you take care of the village, and we will definitely handle this matter beautifully for you.” Wang Jianxin patted his chest and promised.
“Then when you’re done, call my assistant directly.”
“no problem.”
“I have something to do. I’m leaving now.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay, just go ahead and do your work!”
After Lv Weibin allocated the 600 acres of planting shares, it was already five o’clock in the evening. He hurriedly drove back to the company with a few colleagues. When he arrived back, he could just clock out of get off work.
A group of people came to the restaurant in the experimental area to have dinner.
I happened to meet Jiang Miao and Jiang Haibo who were also having dinner.
He took a box lunch and came to the table next to Jiang Miao: “Boss, 600 acres of land for soybean planting has been arranged. I have arranged it for Yancheng Village, Xinxiang and Jincheng Village. It should be done tomorrow.”
“Thank you for your hard work.” Jiang Miao was quite satisfied with his efficiency.
“As I should.” Lu Weibin was not too proud. He was able to handle this matter so smoothly, it was not his credit, but thanks to Hailufeng Company and Jiang Miao. Then he asked:
“Boss, if we follow your arrangement, the fields for the second crop of soybeans must be prepared in advance. I think they can be arranged in Nanfen Village and Xihe Village near the strawberry planting base in Hongcao Town. There happens to be a large piece of dry land there, but it may not be enough.” Lu Weibin is very familiar with the surrounding situation.
He thought for a moment and added: “If we include Pubian Village, Nanyang Village, Wuya Village, Wuwei Village, Xiaya Village, and Yaqing Village, we should be able to raise a total of 6,000 acres of dry land.”
Jiang Miao shook his head: “It’s not enough. The first crop of 600 acres can yield about 180,000 kilograms, which can be used to plant about 36,000 acres.”
In this regard, Lv Weibin pondered for a while and found that there was no such large area of dry land near the urban area. He could only suggest: “If this is the case, you can only go to Lufeng, where there are large areas of dry land.”
Jiang Miao reminded, “That’s the only way. It’s far from the city, so your planting division should set up a temporary office there. These tens of thousands of acres of soybeans are related to our company’s future strategy, so we can’t be careless.”
“OK.”
