“Xiaosan? I’m Huang Tian, we even drank together, why are you so cold today? Are we not brothers anymore?”

Huang Tian’s hand was already gripping the short staff at his waist, while swiftly observing his surroundings.

Narrow alley, high walls on both sides, blocked front and back—a typical dead end.

But the black-clad man didn’t speak, merely slowly drew the long blade from his waist.

“San’er, you’re not here to take my life, are you? I’m Lord City Lord’s guard!” Huang Tian suddenly burst into action!

The short staff, like a fierce tiger descending from the mountain, aimed straight for Xiaosan’s throat.

The man clearly didn’t expect Huang Tian to attack first, hastily raising his blade to block, but the short staff changed direction and heavily struck his wrist.

“Crack!”

A crisp sound, accompanied by a scream.

Huang Tian didn’t give the others time to react, his short staff danced into a blur of black, unleashing astonishing power in the narrow space.

He was a veteran, and his combat prowess was no joke.

In just a few breaths, three black-clad men had fallen to the ground.

Huang Tian seized the opportunity to rush towards the alley entrance, only to see more black-clad men swarming from all directions.

“Damn it, who in the entire Boulder City doesn’t know I, Huang Tian, am the City Lord’s guard? How dare you treat me like this, aren’t you afraid of death?!” Huang Tian cursed loudly.

“That’s well said, Huang Tian, you’ve even moved this City Lord.” A familiar voice came from behind the crowd.

The black-clad crowd automatically parted, revealing none other than the barrel-bellied City Lord—Jin Zheng.

Huang Tian leaned against the wall, his short staff held horizontally across his chest, his breathing already a bit ragged: “City Lord, they want to kill your loyal dog!” Cold sweat trickled down his temples, he knew the outcome, but still held a sliver of fantasy. There were too many people, he couldn’t get out!

Jin Zheng stood with his hands behind his back, a cat-playing-with-mouse smile on his bloated face.

“You’re Huang Tian of the Revolutionary Army, Sixth Squadron Captain, did I get that right?”

Huang Tian’s heart sank. How did the other side know his position! Could it be…

“Let me guess, you’re especially eager to know how I know all this right now?” Jin Zheng seemed to read his mind. “There are quite a few more pragmatic people in the Revolutionary Army.”

He was ruthless and inhumane, but that didn’t mean he was an idiot or brainless. In this southern region, active with rebels, he would have been hanged long ago if he didn’t have a few tricks up his sleeve.

“Moreover, you sent out three groups this time, didn’t you? People from Night Raid, the super famous assassination organization in the Imperial Capital, right?”

And this sentence was like a sharp knife piercing Huang Tian’s heart.

Traitor! A traitor in the upper echelons of the Revolutionary Army! Then the intelligence was false! Damn it! Those two don’t know yet!

“Lord, you jest, perhaps you’ve guessed wrong?” Huang Tian’s voice was hoarse, his hand gripping the staff trembled. He had to find a way to make those two retreat!

Jin Zheng shook his head: “I quite admire you, but unfortunately, if you live, that traitor will eventually be discovered by you. Better to die!”

He waved his hand lightly, and over twenty black-clad men lunged simultaneously!

Huang Tian knew he wouldn’t survive tonight, he could only fight with his life! Kill this City Lord!

The short staff in his hand seemed to come alive, at times thrusting like a spear, at times sweeping like an iron whip.

He specifically aimed for the enemy’s vital points, each strike accompanied by the muffled sound of bones breaking and flesh tearing.

But there were simply too many enemies. A long blade slashed across Huang Tian’s left arm, blood instantly soaking his sleeve; another heavy punch struck his back, making him stumble a few steps, spitting out a mouthful of blood.

Huang Tian leaned against the wall, panting heavily, his vision blurred from blood loss. Over ten black-clad men lay on the ground, but the remaining ones still charged fearlessly.

“What excellent skill, unlike those good-for-nothing idiots,” Jin Zheng praised from outside the battle circle.

“You die! You dog City Lord!”

Huang Tian suddenly roared, the short staff flew from his hand, speeding towards Jin Zheng’s face.

This was his last gamble—to catch the leader first and then escape!

Jin Zheng seemed to have been prepared, calmly taking two steps back, then reaching out to block the short staff.

Huang Tian used this brief opening to leap onto the rooftop, stumbling and running across the rooftops, blood continuously gushing from his left arm wound, leaving dark red trails on the tiles.

The shouts of the black-clad men behind him grew closer. He gritted his teeth and turned into a narrow alley.

After several twists and turns, Huang Tian hid in an abandoned shack.

He held his breath, listening to the footsteps of his pursuers pass overhead, gradually fading away.

In the darkness, he pressed on the wound on his left arm, cold sweat sliding down his cheeks.

“I made it…” Huang Tian let out a long breath, his tense nerves relaxing slightly.

He had survived, though severely wounded, but as long as he could get the message out!

But “Bang!”

Huang Tian was still celebrating when, for some unknown reason, a huge force struck his chest! He flew backward, crashing heavily against the wall.

The excruciating pain of broken ribs almost made him faint. He struggled to look up and saw a black-haired girl standing in front of him.

The girl was very young, with black hair, dressed in a black short skirt, holding a katana.

“You’re really good, you almost got away.” The black-clad girl squatted down and reached out, her slender fingers gently pressing on Huang Tian’s forehead.

Huang Tian wanted to resist, but his whole body was in excruciating pain, he couldn’t resist at all.

“I heard Night Raid came this time, I wonder if my dear sister will be in this group, I really miss her…”
