You helped him have a baby, what do you regret about the divorce? Chapter 100

Su Xinyue took a deep breath and said in as relaxed and cheerful a tone as possible, “Mom, I’m pregnant.”

Silence fell for a few seconds on the other end of the line, and Su Xinyue’s heart leaped into her throat.

Then, her mother’s voice, surprised yet tinged with disbelief, suddenly shot up, “What?! Pre…pregnant?! Oh my! Really?! Oh my goodness! That’s wonderful! Absolutely wonderful! Yueyue, you’re finally pregnant!”

Su Mama’s voice was filled with uncontrollable excitement and joy, even a hint of a choke. Su Xinyue could imagine her mother on the other end, covering her mouth, her eyes red with emotion.

“Yes, it’s true, almost two months now,” Su Xinyue’s voice also lightened a bit due to her mother’s happiness.

“Oh, my dear grandchild! Grandma has been waiting for you!” Su Mama said repeatedly. “When did you find out? Why didn’t you tell Mom sooner? How’s your body? Is the morning sickness bad?”

A barrage of questions came her way, and Su Xinyue was momentarily unsure which to answer first. When Zhao Ziyu was mentioned, the smile on her lips faded slightly, and she vaguely said, “It’s alright. Mom, I… I want to come home and stay for a few days. I want to come back and have you take care of me.”

“Come back! Of course! When do you want to come back? Mom will go buy groceries right away and stew your favorite black chicken soup! And sea bass, it’s good for the baby!” Su Mama didn’t doubt her, immediately excited and began making arrangements.

“Mom, I’ll pack my things and head over soon,” Su Xinyue said.

“Good, good, good! Mom will wait for you at home! Be careful on the road! Drive slowly!”

“Mm, I know, Mom. I’ll hang up now and head over after I pack.”

“Good, good, good, come back quickly, Mom is waiting for you!”

After hanging up, Su Xinyue let out a long sigh of relief. Her mother’s joy was like a warm ray of sunshine, dispelling much of the gloom in her heart.

Thinking that she would soon return to that loving and warm home, her mood also brightened.

She pulled open the wardrobe and began packing her clothes. Maternity clothes, loose and comfortable loungewear, and some daily necessities. As she folded her clothes, she thought about what to tell her mother and what not to tell her when she returned.

It was best not to let her mother know about the messy affairs of the Zhao family for now, lest the old lady get angry and upset.

Just then, her stomach unseasonably rumbled twice.

That’s right, she hadn’t eaten anything since morning, except for that nauseating smell of meat. She had been too angry to feel hungry before, but now that her emotions had somewhat calmed, an intense hunger swept over her like a tidal wave.

She touched her empty stomach and chuckled self-deprecatingly. Really, no matter how big the world was, eating was the most important. Even if she wanted to escape this suffocating place, she had to fill her stomach first to have the strength.

She put down the clothes in her hand, turned and walked out of the bedroom, intending to see if there was anything to eat in the kitchen.

The refrigerator was empty. Zhao Mu probably knew she wouldn’t come out to eat, so she hadn’t even left any leftovers. There were a few packs of instant noodles and crackers in the cupboard, which she had bought as snacks when she was craving something.

Su Xinyue didn’t care about anything else now. She tore open a pack of soda crackers and ate them with cold water to line her stomach. The crackers were dry and tasteless, but at this moment, they were a rare source of energy for her.

She nibbled on the crackers, strolling around the kitchen, hoping to find something else. Her gaze swept over the trash can in the corner, and the glaring sight made her quickly avert her eyes, feeling another wave of discomfort.

Finally, she found half a bag of bread and a small jar of honey on the bottom shelf of the storage cabinet.

“Hmm, at least there’s this. I can make some red date and honey water, warm my stomach, and it’s nutritious.” She muttered to herself, cheering herself up.

She boiled a pot of water, blanched a few red dates with the hot water, threw them into a cup, then scooped in two spoonfuls of honey and slowly stirred it. The warm, slightly sweet red date water warmed her cold stomach.

With some strength, she returned to the bedroom and continued packing her luggage. This time, her movements were much more nimble, and her goal was clearer.

She only took her daily clothes, toiletries, some books and health supplements needed during pregnancy, and all her documents and valuables.

After packing the two suitcases, she took one last look around the room. Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, casting mottled light and shadow on the floor, and the air still seemed to carry the scent of the recent argument.

Su Xinyue picked up the suitcases and, without a hint of reluctance, turned and walked out of the bedroom.

The living room was still empty. The dining table, which once symbolized “home,” now seemed like a sarcastic stage to her, where a disheartening farce had played out.

She didn’t look back again, walking straight to the front door.

“Click,” the lock opened.

“Bang!”

The heavy sound of the door closing echoed in the empty house, as if isolating all unhappiness within.

Su Xinyue didn’t look back, walking straight to the car parked downstairs. The sunlight was a bit dazzling; she squinted, pulled open the car door, and got in.

She took the two suitcases out of the trunk and placed them on the ground, not opening them immediately, but leaning against the car door, letting the sun warm her.

Taking a deep breath, the air no longer held that suffocating pressure, only the unique tranquility of this neighborhood.

Opening the trunk, she laboriously lifted the two suitcases inside. A pregnant woman’s body was indeed not what it used to be; just lifting a suitcase made her feel a bit breathless. She gently rubbed her lower back, closed the trunk, and got into the driver’s seat.

The car slowly drove out of the community. This area was originally where her parents’ home was located, not far away. After just over ten minutes of driving, she turned onto a familiar street.

The sycamore trees along the road were lush and green, and sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting mottled shadows. Everything exuded a familiar and warm atmosphere.

About half an hour later, the car stopped downstairs at the apartment building. She didn’t rush to get out. Sitting in the car, she looked up at her floor, where the window was open, and she could faintly hear voices. Was her mother talking on the phone with someone?

She pulled open the car door, and a warmth enveloped her. Not the warmth of the temperature, but the warmth of home. She picked up one suitcase, just about to go to the trunk for the other, when the unit door was pulled open from inside.

“Yueyue!” Su Mama’s surprised voice rang out, her face beaming with an irrepressible smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She was wearing an apron and holding a spatula, clearly in the middle of cooking.

“Mom!” Su Xinyue’s nose tingled, and her eyes welled up. She put down the suitcase and quickly walked over.

Su Mama hugged her tightly, gently patting her back, “Silly child, why are you crying? Come in quickly.”

"Repay a favor? You call this repaying a favor?" Lin Gengjin stood up suddenly, and the chair he brought over hit the floor with a "bang", making a dull loud noise that was particularly harsh in this quiet room. He stared at Su Xinyue, his eyes seemed to be spewing fire, his fingertips were slightly white due to extreme anger, and even trembled uncontrollably. "Su Xinyue, are you crazy? In order to repay that so-called favor, you want to give birth to a child for Zhao Ziyu? What's in your mind? Paste or shit?" "Husband, don't be angry, listen to me..." Su Xinyue quickly explained, "Su Xinyue, what do you think of me, Lin Gengjin? A dispensable decoration? A chess piece that you can sacrifice at will!" Lin Gengjin interrupted her, his voice hoarse due to anger, and every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, with a strong sense of disbelief and heartache. Su Xinyue also stood up, like a lioness forced into a corner. Her usually gentle eyes were now filled with stubbornness and determination, as if she had become a different person. Her eyes were frighteningly red, as if she had just experienced a heart-wrenching cry, or like bloodshot rabbit eyes, covered with dense bloodshot, revealing a desperate madness. "Husband, you don't understand anything at all! Do you think I am thinking? If it hadn't been for Zhao Ziyu, what would have happened to me now? I might have been killed by those little gangsters... by them... Now he is begging me in front of me, asking me to help him, how can I bear to refuse?"
