Every detail was as clear as a movie in slow motion, so clear that it sent shivers down her spine.

She slightly tilted her head, using her peripheral vision to observe the man beside her.

His profile looked a little pale in the sunlight, but the barely suppressed excitement and triumph in his brows were impossible to hide.

Where was the slightest hint of a dying man’s despondency and despair? Instead, it was like… a sense of relief and satisfaction after completing a major task.

This thought flashed through her mind, making Su Xinyue’s heart sink abruptly.

“What are you thinking about?” Zhao Ziyu seemed to notice her silence, slowing his speech, his tone carrying a hint of probing. “Are you tired? How about… we go home and rest first?”

“No need,” Su Xinyue opened her eyes, her voice still flat. “Just drop me off at the company.”

Zhao Ziyu grunted, not continuing the previous topic, and the car fell into a brief silence. After a while, he seemed to suddenly remember something, and his tone became enthusiastic again:

“Xinyue, um… I’ve never been to your company before. Can I come up and take a look with you?”

Su Xinyue frowned. She instinctively wanted to refuse. The company was her territory, the order and space she had painstakingly built. She didn’t want Zhao Ziyu to set foot there, nor did she want her colleagues to see her with him.

This feeling was too strange, and too… embarrassing. She couldn’t even define Zhao Ziyu’s current identity. Ex-boyfriend? Agreement partner? The child’s… “father”? Every label made her feel uncomfortable.

“There’s nothing to see at the company,” she tried to refuse. “It’s just a regular office building.”

“Oh, come on, just take a look,” Zhao Ziyu’s voice took on a wheedling tone, accompanied by his deliberately pitiful face.

“You know, my time… might not be much. I just want to see more of everything related to you, to understand you more. Please, I’m begging you, okay? Just for a little while, I won’t disturb your work.”

It was that same old line again. Su Xinyue felt a surge of irritation. Every time she wanted to refuse, he would pull out this “last days” excuse, like a tight curse, making her unable to break free.

She looked at Zhao Ziyu’s “expectant” eyes, thought of his pale face (though it looked much rosier now), and thought of his excitement when signing the agreement… In the end, the word “no” still couldn’t be uttered.

Perhaps, letting him go up and fulfilling this small wish of his, wasn’t a big deal? Maybe, she was just overthinking?

“…Alright,” she heard her own voice say dryly. “You can come up, but I don’t have time to accompany you, I have a lot of work.”

“Great! Thank you, Xinyue!” Zhao Ziyu immediately beamed, as if he had received a great favor. He even hummed an off-key tune, gripping the steering wheel a little lighter.

Su Xinyue turned her head back to the window, watching the company building getting closer, but a strong sense of unease welled up in her heart. She had a premonition that bringing Zhao Ziyu up might not be a wise decision.

This feeling was like a calm lake, into which a stone had been thrown, about to create unpredictable ripples.

She took a deep breath, trying to suppress the turmoil in her heart, but that inexplicable sense of panic, like a vine, silently coiled around her, tightening more and more.

The sunlight shone brightly on her face through the car window, but it couldn’t dispel the slightest chill in her heart.

She knew that some things, from the moment she signed her name, had already slipped out of her control and were sliding in a direction she couldn’t predict. And she, it seemed, could only passively follow, watching it all happen.

The car stopped steadily in front of the grand and imposing office building. Su Xinyue took a deep breath, pushed open the car door, and tried her best to look as capable and composed as usual.

Today, she was wearing a well-tailored professional suit, which further accentuated her tall figure and cool, elegant demeanor.

Zhao Ziyu almost immediately followed her out, a too-bright smile on his face, and quickly walked to her side, naturally trying to take her arm.

Su Xinyue subtly sidestepped, quickly walking towards the revolving door of the building, leaving him a slightly stiff back.

Zhao Ziyu was stunned for a moment, then, as if nothing had happened, quickly followed, still chattering: “Wow, your company building is really impressive! Much better than our small, broken place!”

Stepping into the spacious and bright lobby, the young girl at the front desk, dressed in a uniform, immediately stood up when she saw Su Xinyue, revealing a standard professional smile: “Good morning, President Su.”

Her gaze lingered on Zhao Ziyu behind Su Xinyue for a moment, a hint of imperceptible surprise and curiosity flashing in her eyes, but she quickly returned to her professional demeanor, “And this is?”

Before Su Xinyue could speak, Zhao Ziyu had already taken the lead, enthusiastically extending his hand: “Hello, hello! My name is Zhao Ziyu, I’m Xinyue’s… um, Xinyue’s friend.” He deliberately emphasized the word “friend,” his smile appearing somewhat forced and boastful.

The front desk girl was stunned for a moment before extending her hand to shake his lightly, her smile a little strained: “Mr. Zhao, hello.”

Su Xinyue felt a vein twitching in her temple. She didn’t want to linger here, so she nodded to the front desk and walked straight to the elevator. “Let’s go up.” Her voice carried a hint of undeniable command.

Zhao Ziyu immediately followed, looking around like a curious child: “Xinyue, your company is quite large! How many employees do you have?”

“It’s alright,” Su Xinyue answered concisely, pressing the elevator floor.

The elevator doors slowly opened, revealing several employees from other companies already inside, as well as two of Su Xinyue’s own colleagues: Manager Li from the Marketing Department and Engineer Wang from the Design Department. Seeing Su Xinyue, they both respectfully greeted her: “Good morning, President Su.”

Su Xinyue nodded.

Zhao Ziyu, however, seemed to have found an opportunity to show off, and immediately greeted them enthusiastically: “Hello everyone! I’m Zhao Ziyu, Xinyue’s friend!” As he spoke, he tried to nudge Su Xinyue with his elbow, hinting for her to introduce him.

Su Xinyue felt a headache coming on. She suppressed her impatience and simply introduced him: “This is Mr. Zhao. This is Manager Li from the Marketing Department, and this is Engineer Wang from the Design Department.”

Manager Li and Engineer Wang both showed obvious surprise, their gazes darting back and forth between Su Xinyue and Zhao Ziyu.

The President Su they usually saw was always alone, decisive and efficient, and had never had such an… “enthusiastic” male friend by her side. Moreover, Mr. Zhao’s behavior seemed completely out of sync with President Su’s style.

“Hello, Mr. Zhao,” both maintained politeness despite their curiosity.

As the elevator ascended, the atmosphere was subtly awkward. Zhao Ziyu continued to make small talk: “Manager Li, is your marketing department busy with the new product promotion recently? I saw the advertisement, it’s well done!”

"Repay a favor? You call this repaying a favor?" Lin Gengjin stood up suddenly, and the chair he brought over hit the floor with a "bang", making a dull loud noise that was particularly harsh in this quiet room. He stared at Su Xinyue, his eyes seemed to be spewing fire, his fingertips were slightly white due to extreme anger, and even trembled uncontrollably. "Su Xinyue, are you crazy? In order to repay that so-called favor, you want to give birth to a child for Zhao Ziyu? What's in your mind? Paste or shit?" "Husband, don't be angry, listen to me..." Su Xinyue quickly explained, "Su Xinyue, what do you think of me, Lin Gengjin? A dispensable decoration? A chess piece that you can sacrifice at will!" Lin Gengjin interrupted her, his voice hoarse due to anger, and every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, with a strong sense of disbelief and heartache. Su Xinyue also stood up, like a lioness forced into a corner. Her usually gentle eyes were now filled with stubbornness and determination, as if she had become a different person. Her eyes were frighteningly red, as if she had just experienced a heart-wrenching cry, or like bloodshot rabbit eyes, covered with dense bloodshot, revealing a desperate madness. "Husband, you don't understand anything at all! Do you think I am thinking? If it hadn't been for Zhao Ziyu, what would have happened to me now? I might have been killed by those little gangsters... by them... Now he is begging me in front of me, asking me to help him, how can I bear to refuse?"
