The dragon… was truly ugly. This was Aoko’s first impression of the dragon after running out of the inn.

Its fangs jutted out, its scales were a murky black, and it had large and small grotesque wounds all over its body, presumably from the abuse it suffered at the hands of the Dragon Fang Bandit group.

Moreover, this dragon was a two-legged wyvern with vestigial claws on its wings, not a true dragon with powerful limbs.

Aoko didn’t know how dragons were classified in this world, but she had once seen a model of a dragon skeleton inside the Clock Tower. That dragon was the type with all four limbs and two wings, and it was made based on the cursed body in the Spiritual Tomb Albion, so it probably wasn’t too different from the original.

The black dragon swooped over the town like a bomber, its brought winds and shockwaves leaving the town in ruins. Residents’ glass windows (this magical medieval era actually had glass) shattered one after another, accompanied by continuous screams.

In Aoko’s perception, though the black dragon had an astonishing aura, she didn’t sense any magical impedance (i.e., anti-magic) on its body, so there shouldn’t be any mystery issues. However, just as she was about to raise her staff to cast a spell, she was stopped.

Lina pulled on Aoko’s sleeve from behind her, subtly shaking her head, signaling to wait a bit before acting.

Aoko thought for a moment, roughly understanding Lina’s meaning, so she lowered her raised staff and stood aside with Gourry, watching Lina perform.

“Quickly, help us deal with that black dragon!” The village elder ran towards Lina, shouting. “Any later, and our town will be burned to ashes!”

“So, how much are you willing to pay us, Elder?” Lina asked with a mischievous, innocent voice. “Of course, we’re willing to defeat this dragon, but we don’t work for free, you know?”

“Go-gold twenty pieces, how about that?” The elder tremblingly held out two fingers, looking pained.

“No, it has to be thirty. There are three of us,” Lina immediately raised the price, adopting a stance of ‘if you don’t pay, just wait for the dragon to tear down your town!’

Seeing this money-grubbing demeanor, Gourry sighed from the side, but he didn’t interrupt Lina’s actions, because even the noblest swordsman needed to eat.

“If you hesitate any longer, your town will be completely destroyed,” Lina’s expression was quite cunning. “Time’s almost up~”

“Twenty-twenty-five pieces, how about that?” The village chief unwillingly tried to lower the price again. “Can’t go any higher.”

“Then let’s go, Gourry, Aoko.” Lina Inverse said, adopting a posture of leaving without caring about the village’s fate.

“Alright! You demon, thirty pieces it is!” The village chief said sadly. “Quickly kill that dragon for me, many houses in the village have already been destroyed!”

“Okay, leave it to us! Just a mere black dragon, we’ll deal with it quickly!” Lina said with a confident smile.

Aoko also approached Lina at this moment, ready to begin their operation. However, the black dragon was currently too far from them. If they used flight magic, their speed wouldn’t match that of the wyvern, and they would be easily defeated in the air.

So Aoko decided to approach the dragon from the ground, lure it down, and kill it.

“You’re right,” Lina agreed with Aoko. “We need to get closer to it before we can lure it to land, otherwise it will keep flying and attacking the ground.”

Perhaps hearing Lina’s words, the black dragon flew two more circles before suddenly landing directly, beginning to breathe fire everywhere, burning the town square to a mess.

Lina was very angry. She felt that the dragon wasn’t giving her any face, and she definitely wanted to give this guy a big one!

Aoko, meanwhile, used Grease on Lina and Gourry respectively, speeding up their movement, while she herself used Reinforcement magic to keep up with their speed. (Physical reinforcement magic cannot be used on those without magic circuits.)

By the time the four of them reached the square (the elder had also followed), the black dragon was already standing in the ruins of houses, roaring and breathing fire, incredibly arrogant.

“It’s too big!” Lina exclaimed in surprise. “It’s almost ten meters tall, isn’t it?! How could that utterly useless bandit group raise something like this?!”

“Uh, actually, the leader of the Dragon Fang Bandit group hatched it from a dragon egg he bought in the night market when he was little. He only paid three copper coins for it back then,” the village chief said somewhat awkwardly. “We thought it was some strange bird egg at the time, so we didn’t pay attention, and then…”

“What doesn’t your night market sell?!” Lina sharply retorted.

“B-back then, the dragon egg was only palm-sized,” the elder argued. “How could we have thought it was a dragon egg?!”

“Gourry, you go attract the black dragon’s attention, and the two of us will use magic attacks to deal with it!” Lina ordered Gourry, the only melee fighter.

“Ah, me?” Gourry pointed at his face, then looked at the fierce black dragon, a bit confused.

“You’ve been reinforced, go!” Aoko quickly tapped Gourry’s head with her staff, giving him a series of Transfiguration buffs (Zoo), and then a “Resist Energy Damage (Fire),” signaling that he ‘could go.’

Gourry moved around a bit, feeling the wonder of Aoko’s reinforcement spells, and immediately became full of confidence. After drawing his longsword, he transformed into an afterimage, arriving at the black dragon’s feet in an instant, striking a sword at its toes.

Gourry’s attack undoubtedly had an effect. Aoko and Lina could already see blood gushing from the black dragon’s toes.

The black dragon felt pain from its injury and immediately let out a furious roar. The entire dragon rolled on the ground like a lazy donkey, forcing Gourry to twist and turn among the ruins, dodging the black dragon’s massive body.

The black dragon glared hatefully at the little yellow-haired shrimp hopping around, gathering all its strength to spray a blast of dragon’s breath. Gourry couldn’t dodge in time and part of his body was hit by the dragon’s breath, but due to Aoko’s Resist Energy Damage (Fire), the extent of his injury was reduced, only suffering a slight burn.

He seized the opportunity during the black dragon’s fire-breathing cooldown, rushed up and delivered a sword strike, severing the black dragon’s leg Achilles tendon. This greatly reduced the black dragon’s mobility on the ground.

However, what Gourry didn’t expect was that after discovering its leg injury, the dragon actually took directly to the air, no longer wanting to play on the ground with them, intending to fly into the sky and show these little bugs a thing or two…
