Apokolips was suddenly plunged into darkness.

Even the gushing pillars of fire struggled to illuminate the sky; the light of the star had been obscured by a massive object.

On Apokolips’ moon, Ancient One, who had been blasted into space by Thanos’ Omega Beam, pressed her palm against the ground. Golden patterns spread from her palm, rapidly covering half of the moon.

Then, with a sudden clench.

In an instant, half of the moon vanished as if its existence were an illusion.

Outside Apokolips’ atmosphere, a golden light suddenly erupted, with subtle spatial distortions, as if a massive object had appeared.

The next moment, the golden light solidified, and half of the small planet was directly teleported here by Ancient One. The shattered moon was immediately captured by Apokolips’ gravity and began to hurtle towards Apokolips at an extreme speed.

The shattered planet began to disintegrate in the atmosphere, yet it still maintained its general shape. It descended slowly, like a terrifying nightmare.

Thanos floated high in the sky, his rocky gray face contorted with exasperated rage. Large amounts of debris had already crashed to the ground. His armories, Parademons, and some researchers had suffered heavy losses under the impact of the meteors.

And the largest fragment, the colossal meteor peeled from the moon, was slowly approaching Apokolips.

Its immense volume brought incredibly terrifying gravitational fluctuations, but Apokolips was not a normal planet to begin with. Aside from the flames in the fiery pits erupting more fiercely, no other anomalies seemed to occur.

But Thanos knew very well that once this gigantic meteor crashed onto Apokolips, the powerful gravity and mass would instantly disrupt the planet’s entire operation. The current state of Apokolips was already a result of the immense energy unleashed by Thanos after overdrawing the planet’s essence using the Omega Effect. Those endlessly erupting pits of fire were, in essence, the overdrawn energy of the planet being released.

Apokolips’ energy would eventually burn out, and when that time came, he would seek new planets.

But not now.

The meteor’s fall would completely destroy the current balance of Apokolips. The powerful Apokolips energy would erupt completely, and the entire planet would explode like a punctured balloon, with everything on it disappearing.

Then his plans, his ambitions, his great ideals, would all vanish into thin air.

He could leave right now; he just needed to clench the Mother Box in his hand, and it would teleport him to a safe place.

But if he left, who would protect this planet?

Thanos looked up, veins bulging on his gray skin. He stared intently at the slowly descending meteor, ignoring the strange gravitational fluctuations around him.

The next moment, a strong red light erupted from his eyes.

The terrifying red light was like a waterfall flowing backward, its wide curtain stretching endlessly. The dark red rays directly ascended into the sky, then slammed fiercely into the meteor, obliterating a large chunk of it.

But it wasn’t enough.

The next moment, the beams twisted in the air, continuously weaving through the meteor. Thanos’ eyes slowly showed signs of overexertion, and the bursting blood vessels gradually emitted a dark red glow.

Finally, he eliminated most of the meteor.

Thanos sank to the ground, exhausted and gasping for breath.

He could feel that his power had not yet evolved to its peak. A sorcerer who appeared from nowhere could push him to such a degree; his boasted power was simply insufficient.

He needed to continue to grow stronger, as strong as the power he felt from the Omega Effect, or even stronger.

He possessed two units of the Omega Effect; he should become stronger, strong enough to move planets.

At that time, no one would ever stop his ideals again.

At that time, he could bring true peace to the universe.

The remaining meteor fragments fell from the sky, slamming hard into the ground. There were sparks of explosions everywhere, scattered debris, and some screaming aliens, but Thanos didn’t even glance at them, walking directly towards the center of it all.

Ancient One leaned against a piece of meteor, a pale smile on her face. The direct spatial transfer that stripped away half a planet had exhausted all her magic. She couldn’t even stand up now.

“You are strong, Sorcerer, but you cannot kill me!” Thanos strode over to Ancient One and said to her.

“I never truly intended to kill you. I know that would probably be impossible,” Ancient One shook her head helplessly. She extended her hand, her palm trembling uncontrollably, as if she couldn’t control it.

“Your death is imminent!” Thanos stated flatly. This didn’t seem like a threat, but a fact. Ancient One was about to die. Having left the Dark Dimension, her lifespan was already short, and the battle with Thanos had consumed a great deal.

“Yes, my death is imminent…” Ancient One sighed, speaking with a hint of resignation.

“I spent a thousand years protecting my world. I killed too many invaders. I witnessed too many tragedies, so many that I became numb.”

“So when I found that I could escape this responsibility, I was overjoyed, almost impatient,” Ancient One showed a helpless smile. The towering Thanos seemed to respect her, as he did not step forward to fight her, but instead listened patiently to her words.

“But when I truly left that responsibility, left the home I had sworn to protect my entire life, I found that I didn’t know what to do.”

“But now, I understand.”

“I want to protect humanity, to protect Earth, not because of any responsibility or any oath.”

“And what sustained me through a thousand years of darkness was not some forced burden.”

“I do all of this simply because I want to! I want to protect humanity, to guard humanity, even if it means enduring a thousand years of dark whispers, I will still do it.”

“So now, let this old man burn for them one last time!” Ancient One cried out, then golden sparks ignited from her body, squeezing out her last magic and spirit. For humanity, for all life, she shone with a dazzling light, like a phoenix undergoing nirvana.

Thanos unhesitatingly unleashed Omega Beams from his eyes. Ancient One’s left hand instantly conjured a golden shield, blocking the Omega Beams. Her right hand extended, producing a golden lightsaber, which she then fiercely thrust towards Thanos.

Just to hit him, just to wound him, even the smallest injury would be a blow to Thanos, and might spare Earth some suffering in the future.

But just a second before hitting Thanos, her body suddenly stiffened, and she sighed helplessly.

Her lifespan had reached its limit.

Her magic slowly dissipated, turning into golden sparks. Her body trembled uneasily; the side effects of forcing herself to live for a thousand years in this world meant she was about to be erased by the universe.

Her body began to turn into dust, bit by bit.

Ancient One staggered, finally leaning against a large meteor fragment, shaking her head helplessly.

“I hope… Earth is well!” Ancient One said. The universe’s self-cleansing began, and her body rapidly turned to ash and disappeared.

But just as her consciousness was about to completely vanish…

“Respected Ancient One, you possess an incomparably compassionate heart. Are you willing to become a Green Lantern Construct and once again protect sentient life?” A familiar voice sounded in Ancient One’s “ear.”

“Protect sentient life again? You plan to give me another long-term job? And no holidays, no salary, no retirement?” Ancient One retorted.

“Yes!” Lin Dong slowly replied.

“Heh…” Ancient One laughed, a very happy laugh.

“Alright!” She nodded readily, saying.

“Then from now on, Green Lantern Construct convert, take your place!” Lin Dong smiled. Ancient One’s soul reappeared before him. She wore a long green robe, and a wide hood obscured her face, showing only darkness where her features should be. At the brim of the hood, there was a Green Lantern symbol.

PS: I apologize for not updating yesterday. I accidentally fell asleep. I’ll update more over the next two days to make up for it.

This seems to be my first actual missed update.

Regarding the name of the Lantern constructs, to be honest, many things in DC were translated with an emphasis on “faithfulness, expressiveness, and elegance,” and inevitably expanded on the original meaning.
