Nick Fury hastily got into the car and urged the driver to depart quickly.

Beside him, Coulson pulled out a tablet and opened a surveillance video.

“This is the only surveillance footage they just sent through an encrypted channel that isn’t completely damaged. It records the entire process of the accident,” Coulson said, tapping the video. Amidst a crackling sound, what happened hours ago in the S.H.I.E.L.D. underground base was revealed.

At first, everything was normal. The lab was quiet and peaceful, with no anomalies except for the slight noise of machinery operating.

Suddenly, without any warning, the Tesseract began to stir. It started continuously releasing energy outwards, and the experimental instruments began to overload. Accompanied by crackling sounds, it looked extremely dangerous.

“Why didn’t she shut down the power?” Nick Fury asked.

“It’s no use, sir. According to Dr. Selvig, this thing is its own energy source. Even if you shut it down, it can reactivate itself,” Coulson explained to Nick Fury. The S.H.I.E.L.D. director nodded and continued to observe the screen.

In the footage, the Tesseract’s anomaly became increasingly apparent. Finally, with a violent sound, something seemed to change around the Tesseract. The screen began to flicker and become increasingly blurry.

“What’s going on?” Nick Fury asked.

“We’re not sure yet, sir. Something seems to be interfering with the normal operation of the cameras,” Coulson replied.

Then, on the blurry screen, a woman’s figure seemed to make a decision. She began to walk step by step towards the Tesseract. At this point, the Tesseract had transformed into a giant eye of the storm, continuously devouring massive amounts of air, creating a strong gust of wind indoors. Jane Foster grabbed a nearby instrument with her hand, barely resisting the powerful suction, and walked step by step to the side of the Tesseract, pressing the emergency release button.

The cube fell to the ground, seemingly safe.

But in the next moment, the cube’s form completely transformed, becoming something like a black hole, sucking in Jane Foster and a large number of scientific instruments, and then spitting them out a second later.

The black hole disappeared, and a silver-gray cube and a blue cube fell to the ground.

Beside them was Jane Foster’s shattered body. Except for the heart in her chest, she was essentially indistinguishable from a corpse.

“Why are there two cubes?” Nick Fury asked again. But Coulson could only shake his head, expressing his ignorance. “I don’t know, sir. In fact, no one knows.”

The video continued. The silver cube seemed to sense something. It instantly transformed into a fluid, enveloping Jane Foster and the blue Tesseract.

The silver fluid, like slime, began to extend its tendrils, devouring all the broken metal around it. With grinding sounds, the metal instruments were enveloped, and the matter was reconstructed and repurposed. Her shattered body was repaired with metal, charred blood vessels were largely excised and reshaped, her head was encased in silver metal to prevent brain damage, and the Tesseract beside her provided immense energy for all of this.

This eerie repair gradually stopped. The Tesseract’s energy was continuously being absorbed by the mechanical body. Then, with a “bang,” the Tesseract shattered, and a small blue gem was exposed to the air.

“What’s going on? The Tesseract inexplicably started to mutate, and from one, it became two, and now one has become a metallic body, and the other has become a glowing gem. What is happening?” Nick Fury asked, frowning. “We don’t know, sir. The researchers said…” Coulson tried to explain, but Nick Fury waved his hand, silencing him.

“These useless scientists!” Nick Fury cursed in his mind.

Soon, the car arrived in front of a skyscraper. Since the lab accident hours ago, Jane Foster had been urgently transported to this building. This was one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s important bases, containing many black-tech instruments. They wanted to try to analyze Jane Foster’s condition and even attempt to control her.

A fully armed agent walked to the car and opened the door for Nick Fury. His shoes made a strange creaking sound on the ground. Upon closer inspection, the ground was covered in shattered glass.

“What’s that?” the driver, who had been silent, suddenly pointed to the sky and asked.

“Is it a bird?” Coulson squinted, barely making out the small black dot receding in the sky.

“Is it a plane?” the agent beside Nick Fury guessed.

“No… it’s a damned Cyborgirl!” Nick Fury said with a grim face, using his one remaining eye to see the true appearance of the flying object in the sky, and casually gave it a codename.

Hundreds of meters high in the sky, a silver mechanical being, overall feminine in form, had several peculiar thrusters on her feet and back, spewing blue flames. Her flight was unpracticed, and she flew erratically towards the distance.

—————

Jane Foster opened her eyes.

“What?” She felt groggy. She struggled to stand up but was surprised to find herself lying on a silver-white bed, her body connected by countless wires.

“What happened?” she shouted, looking at her silver-gray mechanical body, a panicked expression on her face.

“I can’t feel my hand!” She brought her arm under her eyes to examine it, but what met her gaze was a silver-gray metallic arm. Sets of data appeared, mechanically analyzing the arm’s functions, transformable forms, number of weapons mounted, and so on.

Before her, streams of data flashed by. Her brain seemed to involuntarily analyze everything around her. Data flowed like a waterfall before her eyes.

She clutched her head, feeling a roaring noise in her mind: “I can’t feel anything.”

She tore off all the wires connecting her, struggled out of bed, stumbled out of the room, and a piercing alarm began to blare.

“What did you do to me?” she shouted, her voice filled with panic and helplessness.

“Please calm down, Ms. Foster. We haven’t done anything to you,” a voice came from the intercom on the wall, trying to comfort Jane Foster.

“Something’s in my head!” Jane Foster barely managed to stand up, trying to leave the room, but after only two steps, her mechanical body, which she couldn’t control properly, fell and crashed into the wall, easily creating a large dent in the metal wall.

“Your brain has been transformed into a quantum computer, but you’re still alive. To be alive after such severe injuries is already a miracle,” the voice continued, trying to calm Jane Foster.

“Alive? You call this alive?” Jane Foster stumbled to the door, grabbed the doorknob with her mechanical hand, but accidentally tore it to shreds. “This state, half-human, half-machine?”

“Ms. Jane Foster, I advise you to return to your position immediately, or soldiers will come to apprehend you.” The voice began to threaten, but Jane Foster seemed not to hear it. She directly burst through the door, barely maintaining her balance, and ran towards the distant light.

Then, a mechanical voice sounded in her mind.

[Gunpowder weapon holder detected. Attack mode online. Activating White Noise Cannon.②]

①Cyborgirl: I looked it up, and DC actually has such a character. Unfortunately, she’s a third-rate villain with no real fame.

②White Noise Cannon: Cyborg’s most commonly used weapon. Cyborg is one of the Justice League’s main members in DC’s New 52, even though he used to be a Teen Titan. Cyborg is black. He was on the verge of death due to a Mother Box explosion, but with the help of his father and the Mother Box, he survived. The cost was that everything except his brain and heart became mechanical.
