Hogwarts Card System Chapter 187

Chapter 187: Counting the Harvest: The Diary Explodes!

Dumbledore would definitely be nervous after something like this happened.

If last year, the actions of the good student Tom were still under his control, with him writing the script and merely letting the actors Tom and Quirrell improvelise, then this year, it was a wild donkey running rampant.

Last year in the underground chamber, Dumbledore had personally watched the remnant soul of Voldemort howl and pass through the wall, ultimately not attempting to intercept him.

Because he had already sensed the peculiarity of Voldemort’s state; he had no certainty, or rather, no magic that could affect Voldemort in that state.

Either don’t act, or act to kill — that was Dumbledore’s creed.

From his duel with his old friend at his peak, defeating him and dismantling the Ten Thousand Saints, to Voldemort wreaking havoc in the British wizarding world without direct confrontation, it had always been so.

But what he hadn’t expected was that while he was still investigating day and night what had happened to the good student and how he managed to be unkillable, his “base” had been stolen!

This year’s Chamber of Secrets incident caught Dumbledore completely off guard.

Especially with Lucius Malfoy seizing the opportunity to coerce other school governors and directly sign for his expulsion. This put him at a disadvantage.

Although he had left Fawkes the phoenix behind, he still wasn’t entirely confident.

For a centenarian, lacking confidence was terrifying. He shouldn’t take risks, because he couldn’t afford to lose.

He had been reflecting during this time, wondering if he was getting old? Slow, hesitant, unable to take effective measures.

This period had truly been agonizing for him.

Then, he heard that the matter had been resolved.

After Fawkes flew back, he already knew the whole story. Then he quickly returned to school to take charge of the situation…

In such circumstances, as the core of the entire incident, Ted, who ultimately killed the Basilisk and destroyed that diary, how could he possibly escape Dumbledore’s attention?

Not to mention Ted even spoke privately with Lucius outside in front of him, deliberately attracting and guiding him to eavesdrop on their conversation.

Ted led the conversation throughout, showing no nervousness or timidity whether facing Lucius or mentioning Voldemort.

It felt as if he was the Headmaster.

At that moment, no one would remember that he was just a second-year wizard.

This style of action, it felt even more excessive than Tom’s back then!

Before, Dumbledore had already felt that this student needed careful guidance, to prevent him from going down the wrong path. Now, he was even more worried that he might cultivate another Dark Lord in his old age.

Therefore, his secretly listening to the conversations in the hospital wing was only natural.

Hmm, very reasonable.

So, Ted’s remark about compensating for the wand was specifically for Dumbledore to hear.

And Ted, in this short night, had changed his mindset. He decided to face this magical world more boldly.

Ted lay on the hospital bed, listening to Ron’s faint snores, squinting at the ceiling.

Since you can’t choose to stifle me, I naturally choose to be a bit more unrestrained.

If I were too honest and obedient, you would just control me.

But if I’m also a problem child, you’d have to accommodate me instead.

That’s right, Ted understood. He had to live out his own value! The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Lie low? Lie low my ass!

Can’t hide, can’t lie low.

Damn it, let’s do this!

What Dumbledore thinks, we’ll worry about that later.

He can’t possibly send me directly to Azkaban, can he? Then he can only try to “guide” me to grow and fight Voldemort.

This was exactly what Ted wanted.

First, let’s tally the gains from this incident.

This incident was truly urgent, from going to Hagrid’s hut, to Hagrid’s arrest, Dumbledore’s expulsion, to burning the giant spiders in the Forbidden Forest, to Ron’s confession, to forcing Lockhart into the Chamber of Secrets to save Malfoy, all the way to finally killing the Basilisk and destroying the diary!

As a result, this night felt as long as a week.

First were the experience gains from burning spiders in the Forbidden Forest, a full 12, 960 experience points!

However, this portion of experience had already been used in the leveling up before the big battle.

At that time, Ted had invested all his experience, not only for leveling up but also for raising his magic, almost completely depleting his experience.

But now, his experience pool had 154 + 350 + 2160 + 8850 = 11514 experience points!

154 was the remaining experience from before, 350 was the reward for the quest [Baby-like Sleep (Blue)] – which was Lockhart’s self-whitewashing reward, 2160 was the reward for destroying the diary, and 8850 was the reward for killing the Basilisk.

That’s right, [Millennium Basilisk], Level: 14 Magical Creature / 2 Transformed Creature / 1 Millennium Creature, gave a full 8850 points of reward.

Even so, Ted felt that it must have been reduced.

After all, Ron’s exploding wand had indeed severely harmed the Basilisk, which must have affected the final experience.

And besides experience, there were card rewards.

First, the eight white and green cards that exploded from the Acromantulas.

Big, white, Q-弹, translucent chunks of meat!

[Large Chunk of Spider Meat (White)], Material Card X 2

Something like white spider silk extending from a belt.

[Acromantula Silk Sac (Green)], Material Card X 2

A bottle of green liquid.

[Acromantula Venom (Green)], Material Card

A strange glowing eyeball.

[Acromantula Eye (Green)], Material Card

A spider-shaped black shadow lurking in the tree canopy.

[Lurking Instinct (Green)], Material Card

A pair of light blue knitted mesh shoes.

[Spider-Walking Shoes (Green)], Item Card

The previous ones are nothing special, just materials.

[Lurking Instinct (Green)] is a material card, which can be used to strengthen or add special effects or attributes to other cards.

[Spider-Walking Shoes (Green)]

Item Card

Equipping makes you more agile, + 1 Agility.

Equipping allows you to walk on walls and ceilings.

Note: Walking on walls requires strong core muscles and not excessive body weight!

This is an equipment, a pair of exquisite knitted sports mesh shoes.

Don’t say it, the style is quite trendy.

Then there was the reward card for the quest [Baby-like Sleep (Blue)], [Obliviate (Blue)], a one-time use, which directly raises Obliviate to Level 5 upon use!

Professor Lockhart is not stingier than Professor Quirrell!

Both Defense Against the Dark Arts professors sacrificed themselves to help Ted. Only gratitude~

Then there were the cards dropped by the Horcrux diary and the Basilisk.

Red border, a small black shadow grinning behind a person, a faint green light symbolizing vitality connecting the two.

[Life Parasitism (Red)]

Spell Card

Select a target to use, parasiting a portion of magic on the target, slowly drawing their vitality to strengthen oneself.

Uses: 1/1.

Note: The parasitism process is not simple; you need to use various methods to break the target’s mental defenses and magic resistance.

Blue border, a milky white ghost floating out of a fallen corpse.

[Ghostification (Blue)]

Spell Card

Use: Transform a dying target into a ghost controlled by you.

Uses: 1/1.

Note: Use with caution. If the target is too powerful, transforming into a ghost might backfire on you.

Blue border, a glowing blue orb, vaguely forming a crystalline object.

[Magic Essence (Blue)]

Material Card

Condensed from powerful and pure magic, rare and uncommon, with diverse uses.

Blue border, the image shows a large “+ 1000EXP” text.

[Experience Card (Blue)]

Experience Card

Increases experience by 1000 points upon use.

Uses: 1/1.

The diary truly lives up to its name as a one-time Horcrux; even the cards it dropped are one-time use.

However, these two spell cards are truly sinister, practically tailor-made for a Dark Lord!

These cannot be used lightly; if discovered, the throne of the third Dark Lord would be firmly secured.

[Magic Essence (Blue)] is probably for strengthening other cards later on.

The [Experience Card (Blue)] is more practical. This counts as an additional experience gain!

And then, the cards dropped by the Basilisk…
